Bruce
Bruce, a lovable nine-year-old pit bull, was experiencing some eye bulging, redness and pain. His owner is an American veteran who is disabled and whose income could not support a vet bill for an eye specialist. Bruce's dad said Bruce is his "best buddy and therapy dog," that he could not stand to see Bruce in pain, and he desperately needed financial help to get Bruce specialty care.
Thankfully, Bruce was referred to the Elder Paws Senior Dog Foundation's Pandora Fund program, supported by a Grey Muzzle grant, where he saw their veterinarian for an exam and a blood workup. Bruce was then sent for a consultation with an eye specialist where he received several eye tests; it was confirmed that Bruce had Glaucoma, accounting for his symptoms.
It was originally thought that Bruce might need to have his eye removed; but in an effort to try to save the eye, Bruce was sent home with several different medications to use over a 90-day period to attempt to get the pressure down and resolve the problem. The medication worked well, the pressure was relieved, and with ongoing treatment, eye removal is not necessary at this point.
Bruce's owner is thrilled his best friend received the help he needed in a timely manner and that his eye was salvaged.
