Animal Friends is a companion animal welfare organization serving the pets and people of Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. Since 1943, Animal Friends has been impacting the lives of thousands of pets and people each year by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in crisis, ensuring healthy pets through education, advocacy, and affordable services, and inspiring a community where the animal-human bond is celebrated and nurtured. With progressive programs in humane investigations, behavior and enrichment, humane education, veteran services, pet-assisted therapy, affordable veterinary care, and pet retention, Animal Friends is “thinking outside the cage” and leading the way toward their vision of a humane and compassionate future for every animal friend.

Funding from the Grey Muzzle Organization will help Animal Friends provide high-quality medical and dental care to senior shelter dogs, reducing barriers to adoption and helping them find loving homes. All senior dogs at Animal Friends receive routine wellness care, but many also require additional medical treatment. With the GMO grant, each dog will receive a senior bloodwork panel and dental care as part of their comprehensive intake process. These procedures will allow Animal Friends to diagnose and treat medical issues, helping dogs like McCartney find loving adoptive homes more quickly.
