Second City Canine Rescue

Second City Canine Rescue’s (SCCR) mission is to rescue homeless dogs and responsibly place them into permanent, loving homes. SCCR believes in rescuing responsibly℠ meaning they put a lot of time and effort into their dogs to ensure they are ready to be part of a family and placed with adopters who are a match for their temperament and energy level to ensure each dog has the best chance of finding their forever family. Based in the western suburbs of Chicago, SCCR has saved more than 6,000 dogs since its inception in 2011. All breeds, ages, sizes, and colors are welcomed and loved.

The Grey Muzzle Organization has provided Second City Canine Rescue (SCCR) with a grant to provide at least 60 senior dogs with needed medical and dental care during the 2024-2025 grant cycle. Due to the increase in veterinary costs since the pandemic and an increased need for extraordinary medical and dental care for the seniors SCCR is accepting into our care, The Grey Muzzle Organization has also provided SCCR a grant toward the extraordinary medical and dental care for 20 senior dogs.  

One of the seniors helped by SCCR's partnership with The Grey Muzzle Organization is Alma, who recently completed treatment for heartworms. Alma came to us from Alabama and was very sweet and loyal even through her heartworm treatments. Alma was adopted in a loving local family and we are grateful to The Grey Muzzle Organization for helping us save Alma and the other amazing senior dogs needing expensive dental and medical care over the next year.
