Taffy & Peaches
Last summer, a pair of Cocker Spaniels named Taffy & Peaches were returned to the local animal shelter from which they were initially adopted. Apparently, they did not get along with cats and the adopter reached out to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (BWAR) for help with rehoming them. Thanks to a grant from Grey Muzzle, Brother Wolf was able to take these girls into their program and get them the medical care they needed.
Taffy & Peaches were fostered by BWAR staff member Angela, who’s had a fondness for Cocker Spaniels all her life. Both dogs turned out to have a number of health issues. Peaches had cysts, wasn’t spayed and was severely overweight. Taffy had separation anxiety, was mostly blind, had a mammary tumor and wasn’t spayed either.
Now eight-years-old, these girls were used as breeders for their entire lives. Peaches seemed well adjusted once in a home, but always looked out for her sister Taffy. Taffy is on medication to help with her anxiety and is now comfortable being left alone for short periods of time. She’s now in a new foster home and is learning how to be a true pet and a loved member of the household. Taffy still has some battles to fight, but she is well on her way to a wonderful and fulfilling life. Surprisingly, she actually does extremely well with cats.
Peaches was adopted last fall by a family in Georgia. They rescued another dog a few months before, so Peaches has a brother. Her mom Jennifer is physically active and vowed to help Peaches lose weight. “Peaches and I are together always,” says Jennifer. Peaches has already lost four pounds and is enjoying life in her new home. Thanks for giving these girls a new leash on life.
