    How Grey Muzzle Helped
    Medical Expense Grant

Slugger ended up at a local city shelter after being found limping, and clearly in pain from what turned out to be a dislocated hip. A note from the shelter veterinarian said, "The surgery to fix this condition is beyond what we can provide.” Thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization, Muttville was able to help.

Muttville’s veterinarian performed the surgery Slugger needed to repair his hip. With the help of physical therapy, just a month later he was running!

It’s not typical for a rescue to have a veterinary team, especially one that can perform major surgeries, but thanks to Grey Muzzle and Muttville’s devoted supporters, they can provide pain-relieving procedures to dogs in need, and get them ready for adoption more quickly than ever before.
It wasn’t long before Slugger – now Bernie – found a wonderful home. His adopter wrote, “He is a great addition to our household. He is a love and has ingratiated himself with our son and grandsons."

Slugger’s new beginning wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated shelter staff who work to find options for at-risk senior dogs, volunteers who give their time to transport dogs, fosters who love and nurse the dogs back to health, adopters who open their hearts and homes to wonderful old dogs, and partners like Grey Muzzle that provide much-needed resources to care for these old dogs.
