Malaki
Super sweet Maliki, a 12-year-old Boxer mix, came to UCAN Spay & Neuter Clinic after his owner took him to a full-service veterinary clinic for evaluation because he was losing weight and not acting like himself.
That clinic diagnosed him with possible benign prostatic hyperplasia – a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. Thankfully, this condition is easily remedied--neutering will do the trick! However, Malaki’s owner could not afford the care at the full-service veterinary clinic, so she came to UCAN for help.
Thanks to a life-saving grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization, UCAN was able to provide diagnostic bloodwork (CBC and Chemistry Panel) for Malaki at a cost of only $10 to his owner. The blood work was normal and based upon the results, the surgeon felt it would be safe for Malaki to be neutered. Malaki was neutered (at a reduced cost), which will substantially decrease his risk of developing prostate or testicular cancer in the future.
His owner was very grateful that he will now live a longer, happier life with her!
