Chelsea
Chelsea, eight or nine years old, lived on the streets in Henrico County, VA. Feral, desperate, and replete with a litter of four, she came to Houlagans’ Rest, a dog sanctuary south of Richmond, in 2009. Chelsea rebuffed attempts by both local students and adoring volunteers to regain her trust in humans. Virtually every outing ended with Chelsea hugging the ground, rising only to dart away. This painfully shy girl began to blossom with her swimming sessions at Alpha Dog Club. Spencer, her swim trainer, helped Chelsea understand that she could depend on people again. What a turnaround!
What their Grey Muzzle grant will fund: Grey Muzzle supports ACE’s Shelter Dog Swim program which provides free swim and socialization sessions for dogs from local shelters.
