In Memory of Sammy
By: Mari Sawtelle
Sammy was the happiest and sweetest fur baby who ever joined our family. He was small in stature but had a huge personality that filled our home. He lived with joy and love in everything he did. He loved to play fetch with tiny tennis balls and frisbees and had a jubilant spirit that always put a smile on our faces.
His first night home, an 8-week-old puppy you could hold in the palm of your hand, he curled up against my husband’s neck and fell fast asleep. For the next 16 years, he slept pressed against him every night, Matthew's constant companion and such a blessing to our lives. But ultimately, Matthew was his person.
At 2, Sam was diagnosed with PRA, and we were told he would be blind in a year. With supplements, sardines, and egg yolks, we helped him keep his sight for 6 more years, and his vet was astonished. Blindness did not stop him from sharing his love with us or take away his happiness.
Our sweet boy, there is still a huge hole in our hearts where you were for so long, and we miss you deeply. Rest In Peace, our little Sam-a-lam.
In Memory of De La
By: Emily Sawtelle & Andy Erdmann
De La was an amazing little Chow-Chow mix adopted from the Austin Humane Society. With the support of her brand new adoptive-dad, she survived the deadly Parvovirus; a true testament to her indomitable spirit. The warmth, love, and companionship she brought into her dad’s life helped bring a family together, and De La changed her name to De La Erdmann-Sawtelle in 2013. She remained loyal, funny, furry, pantalooned, protective, spazzy, cuddly, nervous, hungry, doting, sleepy, and ready to wag her tail until her final day of eating bacon at age 84.
In Memory of Bruno
By: Mart & Lindsey McClellan
Bruno was an amazing family member and therapy dog. He lived a long life for a Leonberger and shared his deep love with his family and many thousands of people through therapy and everyday interactions! He was an award-winning dog who even made it on TV and was part of the University of Wisconsin Cancer Research Project. Bruno had a “Lion King” persona, and we will miss him dearly!
