Responsible Aromatherapy™ for the Senior Dog

When aromatherapy is used responsibly, it can be a simple natural solution to help dogs relax, support the human-animal bond, facilitate behavior modification and improve health. Proper use of essential oils is especially important with senior dogs, and can safely help create a calm environment, soothe itchy or irritated skin, quiet digestive upsets, repel insects and heal infections. Increased interest in the healing powers of essential oils has brought an abundance of misleading information about how to use them. Overuse, either in frequency or potency, has caused injury to people and their pets as well as the overharvesting of natural resources. Vicki offers some guidelines to help you have a safe and successful experience by knowing how to use aromatherapy responsibly.
It was love at first smell when Vicki Rae Thorne attended her first aromatherapy intensive in 1992. She’d been diagnosed with fibromyalgia 4 years earlier, and was inspired to start making remedies to address her constant pain and stress. Because she was pregnant and had a five-year-old, she wanted everything to be safe for her entire family, and has applied that same level of responsibility to formulating for dogs of all ages. Vicki founded Earth Heart® in 1996 to help others learn how to safely and effectively use herbs and essential oils as part of everyday life. The exploitation of plant habitats and indigenous economies along with the growing trend toward misleading information led her to create Responsible Aromatherapy™ as the basis of ingredient sourcing and customer education. Vicki holds practitioner certifications in herbalism, aromatherapy, Reiki 2, and holistic cannabis. You can e-mail Vicki here.
