Raise A Glass For Old Dogs: Wine Sales Benefit Grey Muzzle

By Grey Muzzle Volunteer RD Moreno

It sounds too good to be true, but The Grey Muzzle Organization will receive a donation to help homeless senior dogs nationwide when Cru Vin Dog Wines are purchased. For every bottle sold, Grey Muzzle will receive $1 when customers use the Loyal Companion donation code “GMO” at Cru Vin’s wine store.*

“Proceeds will be disbursed to various senior dog programs nationwide including medical care, long-term foster and hospice care, “seniors for seniors” adoption programs, senior therapy dog programs and orthopedic beds for senior dogs in shelters,” said Jennifer Kachnic, Grey Muzzle president. Grey Muzzle currently provides grants to nonprofit rescues and shelters in 21 states.

Cru Vin Dogs Wine Group specializes in finding vineyards and small lots of wine worldwide to create award-winning wines in the $12 to $15 range whose quality far exceeds the price point. Their Sonoma Red Wine was recently rated 88 and highlighted as a “Best Buy” by Wine Enthusiast. Each label showcases an original illustration of a dog by artist Jay P. Snellgrove, who is a founder of Cru Vin Dogs Wine Group. Snellgrove’s label art is retired after the wines are sold out, making the drawings collectable.

After Kachnic visited the Cru Vin Dog gallery in Denver, she saw the two organizations would be a perfect match. “Their dedication to helping various dog organizations around the country is impressive,” said Kachnic. “The Loyal Companion Sonoma Red Wine is my favorite. The wine labels are beautiful and so is the inspiration behind them.”

“I love that Grey Muzzle focuses on senior dogs needing homes,” said Amber Grove, Cru Vin Dogs' marketing and charity director. “All dogs deserve love and attention, and older dogs still have so much love to give. A way to spread the word is gifting our wine to others or serving it at events — the wine is a great discussion piece.”

Cru Vin Dogs Wine Group was founded in 2006 by wine industry veterans Bill Foss (former founder of Grand Vin Ltd., a fine wine distributorship), Mary Snellgrove (former vice president of sales at Grand Vin) and her husband, Jay P. Snellgrove. “They decided to start a wine company that had purpose and gave back,” said Grove. “Cru Vin Dogs was born to combine their passions — friendship, wine, art and the love of dogs and worthy causes — into a wine brand with a purpose. It's about drinking, sharing, gifting great wine that gives back.” The company has donated more than $200,000 to canine charities to date.

“In addition to the monetary support this fundraiser will bring us, we hope to raise public awareness and understanding of our mission,” said Kachnic, “perhaps encouraging more people to become involved in our efforts to help and save senior dogs around the country.”

*Note: Grey Muzzle will benefit from all sales, excluding the Golden Retriever Chardonnay.
