Discovery Elementary School Donation Drive
A new generation for the old generation
Last fall Ms. Katie Swanson invited our executive director, Dr. Lisa Lunghofer, to Discovery Elementary School in Ashburn, VA, along with representatives of several other nonprofits, to present to her third grade class. The children were researching charitable organizations and ways to help them. Lisa spoke about The Grey Muzzle Organization and our efforts to help homeless and at-risk senior dogs.
Amazingly, these compassionate kids were so moved by the organizations they met that they organized a school-wide supply drive during December to help them. On January 18, Ms. Swanson’s class held a reception for the nonprofits the children helped. The students presented Grey Muzzle with almost $500 to purchase beds for senior dogs in shelters, getting them up off cold concrete floors. Lisa was so touched by the thoughts the kids shared about why they chose to help homeless senior dogs. We’re grateful not only for the donations, but for the opportunity to engage such caring kids with our mission. Many thanks to Ms. Swanson and Discovery Elementary School for inviting us and for instilling the importance of giving back in your students.
Here are some of the sweet notes we received from the students!
