    How Grey Muzzle Helped
Medical expense grant for adoptable dogs

Gorgeous Ginger, a 10 to 11-year-old poodle/terrier mix, was rescued by the Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA) after her owner died and there was no one to care for her. A veterinary examination revealed Ginger’s health had been neglected. She was heartworm positive and had a tumorous growth that needed to be removed. Her coat was dirty and matted, and she was in severe need of dental work. A Grey Muzzle grant paid for her medical expenses and when her health makeover was complete, Ginger looked like a new dog, as seen in the striking photos, and was ready to be adopted.

Ginger’s online pictures immediately fetched attention, leading to an encounter with her future parents, Nikki and Julie. They had recently lost a dog and were contemplating getting another pup when they spotted Ginger’s photo on the VBSPCA Facebook page. They immediately fell in love, crediting social media for bringing them together. Nikki and Julie met Ginger and adopted her shortly thereafter.

Her health and well-being restored, Ginger was eager to bring joy to her new forever home. Sweet-natured and happy-go-lucky, she has settled seamlessly into their household and gets along fabulously with the entire family. Though Ginger is deaf, she responds well to hand signals. She’s a quick learner and loves to frolic with her siblings, the other two dogs in the family, who are terrier types as well. Affectionately known as “the three amigos,” they enjoy a fenced-in backyard with plenty of room to roam. Julie and Nikki couldn’t be happier with Ginger and emphasize that she is “set for the rest of her life!”
