When a bonded senior pair enters a shelter, the odds can feel stacked against them. Fostering or adopting two dogs means double the food, double the medical care, and double the emotional commitment. But Angels of Assisi refused to split them up. Even when Rufus went on a local TV segment and generated interest on his own, the team knew these two were a package deal. Thanks to a Grey Muzzle grant supporting their Forever Foster Program, Angels of Assisi took the financial weight off potential caregivers by covering all of Rufus and Faye’s lifelong medical care, including kidney support, joint treatments, bloodwork, and dental care. Then, the magic happened: A local attorney saw their story on TV and spotted their picture on a community billboard. He came to visit, fell head over heels, and welcomed BOTH of them into his home (along with a new cat sibling!). After two months in the shelter, Rufus and Faye are finally back where they belong: sniffing around a sunny yard and cozying up together on a warm couch. Double the age, double the love, and proof that golden oldies deserve to stay together.
