Sweet Dreams from the Grey Muzzle Bed Fund
Generous donations to The Grey Muzzle Organization’s Bed Fund flowed out recently as 30 dog beds arrived in 14 shelters around the country. Big city shelters (Washington Humane Society in Washington, D.C.; Lee County Animal Services in Ft. Myers, FL; and Sacramento Animal Care Services in Sacramento, CA), received beds and so did shelters in smaller cities such as Warren, OH; Florence, SC; Jefferson, WI; and LaPlace, LA.
Gina Knepp from the city of Sacramento: “We cannot thank you enough for your donation … Older dogs have very special needs and often our municipal budgets don’t allow for overindulgence. We will put these beds to great use.”
The Bed Fund purchases either deluxe orthopedic foam beds with washable covers (in delightful pawprints) or Kuranda cots with fluffy fleece toppers. Resting and sleeping off hard, cold shelter floors makes all the difference to elderly dogs. And, as Jennifer Schulz, Grey Muzzle Board member, notes, “A good night’s sleep can ‘put a spring in a senior dog’s step’ when meeting potential adopters.”
Tigger, an 8-year-old owner surrender at the Washington Humane Society shelter in Washington, D.C., is “becoming more comfortable,” says Stephanie Shain, “and the decreased stress is resulting in more interest from potential adopters.”
A big THANK YOU!! to their benefactors from: Ecstacy, Tigger, Stacy, Olivia, Pudge, and Barney.
