Vieques Humane Society and Animal Rescue (VHSAR) is the only open-admission shelter and low-cost veterinary clinic on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. We accept every animal in need—regardless of condition, temperament, or ability to pay. In a community facing deep poverty and ongoing challenges around animal welfare, we’re committed to providing lifesaving care, education, and support to both pets and their people year-round.
With generous support from the Grey Muzzle Organization, our Healthy Seniors at Home & Happy Endings program gives senior dogs the care and compassion they deserve. We offer free wellness clinics, diagnostics, and “pay-as-you-can” support for pet parents, and healing, foster care, and adoption services for abandoned seniors like sweet Coco, who now lives happily in his forever home in Ohio. Together, we’re helping senior dogs stay healthy, stay home, and find the happy endings they’ve earned.
