Sweet Paws Rescue (SPR) is a licensed volunteer-powered and foster-based rescue organization in Groveland, MA. Since its beginning in 2011, SPR has rescued nearly 22,000 animals that would not have a chance at life otherwise. Most Sweet Paws Rescue animals are rescued in the poorest counties in Mississippi and Alabama and brought north for adoption.

In recent years, Sweet Paws Rescue has been expanding support for local communities struggling under the weight of increasing surrenders, abandonments, neglect, and abuse cases. Through the dedication, hard work, love, and patience of more than 350 volunteers, Sweet Paws Rescue uses all possible resources to find forever homes for dogs, cats, and other animals in need of rescue and refuge, so that they can live out the remainder of their lives in comfort and happiness.

Support from Grey Muzzle will allow Sweet Paws Rescue to extend its senior dog program and help save more dogs like 13-year-old Ethel who was rescued after years of neglect and being overbred. She came to Sweet Paws Rescue with skin infections, mammary tumors, and a large mass on her neck that had been left undiagnosed and untreated. Sweet Paws took her in to give her the most love and best life possible for the time she has left. SPR spent weeks treating her skin conditions, and now Ethel is living the life she deserves in the care of one of Sweet Paws Rescue’s Senior Specialist Fosters.

To save more seniors like Ethel, Grey Muzzle funding will be used to increase the number of senior dogs helped, shorten the time these dogs are in foster care, recruit and train more senior fosters, and connect with a larger number of potential adopters in local senior communities. Funds will also support launching a formal Seniors-for-Seniors dog adoption program with reduced adoption fees to connect more senior dogs with loving senior adopters.
