Founded in 1960, the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) is dedicated to eliminating pain, fear, and suffering in all animals. HSU is Utah’s largest private nonprofit animal shelter and pet resource center. The team at HSU works to ensure that every healthy and adoptable pet who enters their facility finds a loving home and will never euthanize a healthy, adoptable animal for any reason. Their lifesaving services include affordable community spays/neuters and vaccinations, adoptions, training and behavior modification, pet retention and shelter diversion, humane education, and an in-state transfer operation.

Funding from Grey Muzzle will help HSU’s Pet Retention Center expand its programming to keep more senior dogs with their guardians by providing high-quality dental care for owned dogs who require extensive dental procedures. Dozens of pet owners call or visit HSU daily to surrender a beloved family pet because they can’t afford their care. For senior animals, the cost of dental procedures, which often include extractions, is a common concern. With Grey Muzzle’s support, HSU will offer extensive dental care for senior dogs for a small co-pay, preventing them from being surrendered and ensuring they are healthy, pain-free, and kept with their loving families. The grant will help senior dogs like nine-year-old Harley live happier, healthier, and pain-free lives.
