Humane Fort Wayne's mission focuses on creating a compassionate world for pets and their people. We have been a part of this community for nearly 70 years and have grown to become one of the most comprehensive animal welfare organizations in the state. With the construction of our new facility in August 2024, we are poised to make an even greater impact on pets and the people who love them, locally and across the region.

With this Grey Muzzle grant, Humane Fort Wayne aims to refine and enhance their existing programs to better collaborate with open-admission shelters, helping senior dogs find homes more quickly. HFW will prioritize senior dogs for adoption through partner organizations, while also educating the community about the joys of caring for older pets. Humane Fort Wayne plans to create an educational module that can be shared both in-person and virtually, raising awareness and support for senior dogs in Fort Wayne and beyond.

The GMO grant will help dogs like Folly, who was surrendered by a breeder after her final litter was weaned. At around eight years old, she faced severe ear infections and needed time to adjust to home life. We provided her with a safe space to heal, and within a couple of months, she was adopted by a loving family, gaining a giant brother named Tiberius.
