Hearts & Bones RescueFunded in 2024
Hearts & Bones Rescue is a nonprofit foster-based rescue located in New York City, NY, and Dallas, TX. It is dedicated to ending the needless euthanasia of shelter dogs through lifesaving, shared learning, and community building. Its network of rescue partners, fosters, volunteers, and small but mighty staff work together to save dogs in under-resourced shelters and unite them with loving adopters ready to give them the lives they deserve.
Support from The Grey Muzzle Organization will help Hearts & Bones Rescue pull 60 senior dogs out of overcrowded shelters and give them the second chance they deserve. This grant will provide medical and dental care to senior dogs like Topo Chica, who require veterinary services before adoption. Topo Chica was transferred to Hearts & Bones from Dallas Animal Services. She had a small nodule on her left shoulder, which, upon further testing, was diagnosed as a mast cell tumor, a common form of cancer that can spread quickly if left untreated. Thanks to the rescue’s quick response, Topo Chica had surgery to remove the tumor. She is now cancer-free and on the road to recovery. Once recovered, she will get a much-needed dental cleaning and be ready for adoption!
