Gateway Pet Guardians (GPG) has been going ‘beyond rescue’ since 2004. GPG’s mission is to keep pets and people together. They believe that everyone, regardless of zip code or income, deserves the love of a pet. GPG keeps families together through affordable and accessible pet care programs, low-barrier adoptions, and community outreach work. They serve 55,000 pet-loving families in the East Side Pet District, just east of St. Louis City in southern Illinois.

The grant will help long-stay older dogs like Gerald, an eight-year-old terrier pit bull mix who came to GPG as a stray in 2023. Gems like Gerald are often overlooked because of their age and vet care needs. Since his arrival, GPG veterinarians learned Gerald has some incontinence and skin issues that are being managed now. The Grey Muzzle Organization will support more dogs like Gerald until they find an adopter and home to call their own!
