Dorchester Paws, formerly known as Frances R. Willis SPCA, is dedicated to improving the lives of animals in Dorchester County, South Carolina. It is the only open-admission shelter in the county, serving towns including Rosinville, Ridgeville, Oakbrook, St. George, Summerville, and Grover, SC. Partnering with Dorchester Code Enforcement, it takes in every lost, abandoned, and abused animal and provides them with food, shelter, and medical attention until they find forever homes. They strive to prevent cruelty to animals by championing responsible pet ownership, ending unnecessary euthanasia, and ending pet overpopulation. Dorchester Paws is dedicated to reducing pain and fear in its community’s animals and is proud that staff and volunteers are certified as fear-free.

Thanks to generous support from Grey Muzzle, Dorchester Paws can provide essential care for senior dogs, significantly improving their chances of adoption. Nearly all senior dogs entering the shelter—whether strays or owner surrenders—need veterinary care. This critical funding ensures that dogs like Birdy receive high-quality medical treatment so they are ready to find their new homes.
