Aster AgingFunded in 2024
The mission of Aster Aging is to empower and support older adults to remain independent and engaged in the East Valley communities of the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area. Founded in 1979, Aster serves over 6,000 older adults annually through various programs and resources, including senior centers, Meals on Wheels, in-home support, outreach, and social services. The agency established a Senior Pet Support Service, reflecting the importance of the unconditional love, companionship, and purpose pets provide for isolated, homebound older adults.
Support from Grey Muzzle will increase the number of senior dogs who can remain in their loving homes with low-income senior adults. Many older adults in the community are forced to choose between buying groceries and paying for prescription medications. They struggle to afford the care of their beloved dogs and worry about having to give them up. This program will address that. The grant will allow Aster to purchase food and supplies for pet packages delivered monthly to older adults living on fixed incomes.
