    How Grey Muzzle Helped
    Medical Expense Grant

Sometimes, pets and their people need a little extra help.

Jessica brought Ruby, her 10-year-old Puggle, to the Kentucky Humane Society’s Healthy Pets Clinic for vaccines. The Healthy Pets Clinic (HPC) is a nonprofit, low-cost wellness clinic whose mission is to provide basic veterinary services to families who are struggling financially. During her visit, Jessica expressed concern over Ruby's recent loss of fur. Ruby had surgery recently, and the hair was not growing back around the site.

The Healthy Pets Clinic veterinarian thought the hair loss could be thyroid related, and recommended Jessica contact her regular veterinarian for testing. But Jessica was unable to pay for a thyroid test, as she was recently laid off and moved home with her parents while she searched for full-time work.

HPC referred her to the Kentucky Humane Society’s free Pet Help Line (502-509-4738) for assistance, since Jessica was already having trouble affording Ruby's medications for arthritis and allergies. The Pet Help Line agreed to help Jessica with a voucher to her local veterinarian to have Ruby's thyroid tested. The Pet Help Line staff checked in with Jessica a few weeks ago, and although Ruby is still missing some hair, her thyroid test came back negative and she is back to her sweet self.

Jessica is grateful to The Grey Muzzle Organization and to the Kentucky Humane Society for helping her provide needed medical care to her girl Ruby.
